CM Jayalalithaa inaugurates the medical insurance scheme for gov employees

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ordered that the medical insurance coverage scheme for the state government employees should be improved and should be extended from 1st July, 2012 till 30th June, 2016 for 4 years trough the Central Government company, United India Insurance.
The earlier scheme expired on 30th June, 2016. Following this, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered that this scheme must be modified and re-implemented from 1st July, 2016 for another 4 years. Under the revised medical insurance coverage, Rs. 4 Lakhs is the amount permitted for the family of the government employee. In addition, the financial assistance given for treatment of cancer and organ transplant is increased to Rs. 7.5 Lakhs.
The differently-abled members who are dependent on the government employee can benefit by medical claims without any age limit. Further, when medical treatment is taken in emergencies like accidents in hospitals not approved by the government, this can also be claimed.
The families of employees in various government departments, local administration employees, state public sector undertakings, and legal institutions, and the employees of state universities can benefit by this medical insurance coverage.
The government employees as mentioned above should pay a monthly subscription of Rs. 180/-. The state government of Tamil Nadu will pay its share of Rs. 16.90 Crores every year to the insurance company. Around 10.22 Lakh government employees and their families are expected to benefit by this scheme.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa inaugurated this scheme in the Government Secretariat. As a token, she distributed the medical insurance cards to 5 government employees.
