Solar panels to be installed in Chennai Corporation buildings

The Greater Chennai Corporation has been utilizing 200 megawatts of electricity for its offices, health centres, schools and street lights. The Chennai Corporation is paying Rs 5 Crores bill  to the electricity board for the consumption of power. In order to reduce the power consumption, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy has mentioned that solar panel will be  installed in 800 of its buildings.  

Subsequently, 77 buildings were chosen as part of phase one implementation. Chennai Corporation official has mentioned: We have installed the panels at nine divisions and one unit office.The power trapped using the panels is stored on a grid at present. The grids have been tested out in zones six, 10, 12, 13 and 14. Using a Nett meter (a solar electricity meter), the measurable quantum of power was found to be 45 units.
