Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha initiated the metro rail extension works for the stretch between Vannarapettai and Wimco Nagar. She lit the lamp and graced the inaugural event for metro rail extension. The central minister Venkaiya Naidu took part as the special guest for the event.
Metro rail services are functional between Koyambedu and Alandur along the 10 km stretch. Works to construct subway between Chennai Central and Egmore is now being carried out. This is also to get expanded to other parts of the city.
The central government had recently announced the metro rail extension between Vannarapettai and Wimco Nagar along 9 km stretch at a cost of Rs 3770 crore. Land acquisition for this stretch has just got over and subway construction has begun now.
Chief Minister Jayalalitha initiated the extension work by laying foundation and addressed the ceremony too. This also saw participation by central minister Venkaiya Naidu, Chie Secrtary Ram Mohan Rao.
