TNPSC Secretary M. Vijaya Kumar explained the reason behind inviting more number of candidates than the total number of vacancies with government job openings while recruiting through exams.
TNPSC conducts examinations for recruiting students for government job positions. Following written examination, certificate verification and counselling will take place. At the time of certificate verification for job positions like junior assistants, typist, stenographer, etc through Group-2A examination, more number of students are invited than the actual number of vacancies.
In this invite sent to candidates, it is clearly mentioned that the applicants invited for certificate verification will be recruited through marks scored, rank list, reservation for their caste, information given in application form, eligibility and number of vacancies. Hence, it is not affirmative that all invitees for certificate verification will get recruited for the job. However, candidates who go for certificate verification and do not get selected for the job tend to get disappointed.
When enquired about this, the secretary of TNPSC said candidates are called based on the importance of each and every job vacancy. About 1.5 to 2 percent of candidates are called for every vacant position. Recruitment process get delayed when there is absence of candidates when we call one candidate per vacancy. We are bound to invite new applicants for those absentees. We invite more number of candidates for certificate verification so as to avoid such hassles. It is not sure that candidates called for certificate verification will get placed for sure. We also make sure to inform the candidates about this, he added.
