On the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Green Revolution, Dr. Amrik Singh Cheema Foundation Trust has bestowed the Life Time Achievement Award on Late Shri C Subramaniam, Architect of India’s Green Revolution and Bharat Ratna Awardee; for his contribution to India’s Food Security. Mr. S S Rajsekar, son of C Subramaniam and Managing Trustee, National Agro Foundation received the award from Hon’ble Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Haryana.
Mr. Rajsekar recalled, A drastic situation of famine prevailed in the country when my father C. Subramaniam (C.S.) took over as Minister of Agriculture. But, through his visionary leadership and techniques, he ensured success by bringing changes in India’s agricultural policy, revamping ICAR, strengthening the extension system, creating Food Corporation of India, announcement of support prices, support to input industries and so on. In 1960s, When many did not believe that India can become self sufficient in food production, C.S. made sure the country’s grain produce was ample enough, and when he became the Minister of Planning in 1971, the first resolution which was passed in the planning commission was that there is no more import of PL 480 wheat from U.S because India had become self-sufficient in food grains.
