Solar panels fitted in trains

The Railway Department has fitted solar panels in the trains which will generate power for lighting system of the coaches. The solar panels are fitted in the trains of Kangra Valley and Kalka-Shimla sections of Himachal Pradesh on trial basis.
The solar panels, which will generate power for lighting system of the coaches, are fitted on the roof-top of 18 narrow gauge coaches and two broad gauge coaches.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said: It has been decided to provide solar panel on roof top of two general coaches of intercity trains and 50 per cent narrow gauge coaches plying on Pathankot-Joginder Nagar route in Kangra Valley section and Kalka-Shimla section for extended trials for one year in all weather conditions. The solar panels will generate power for lighting system of the coaches.
