Most of us have the habit of indulging in wasteful spending of money the moment we get our salary in our hands during the 1st week of the month.

However, the splurging occurs only up to the 15th or 20th of every month. The balance 10 days in the month will have to be managed agonizingly with whatever little money is left. This makes us wait for the 1st of the next month.

Here are a few useful tips to curb unnecessary expenses:

EB Bill: EB Bill payment is one item of expense which must be taken care of. Though the government announces subsidies, we receive a shock when we see the EB bills. SO, let us get into the habit of switching off some of the gadgets which are not in use.

Mobile phone: We understand that it would be difficult to restrict the number of cell phones to only one per family or house. However, many celebrities do not have even one cell phone mainly in order to avoid a variety of problems. We observe that there are many celebrities who have commented that they are happy indeed without using the cell phone. So, restrict the usage as well as the number of cell phones in a family as much as possible.

Vehicles: It is an excellent suggestion to park the vehicle in the house and start travelling by bus or other means to the extent possible.

Tuition Classes: It is better for the parents to become the tuition master and take charge of their children’s education and homework. It is better to avoid sending the children for tuition even as they return from their schools.

Doctors and medicines: It is not necessary to visit the doctor even for very minor complaints such as mild fever, headache, cold, and cough. It is better to have some household remedial measures.

Hotels: The rates mentioned in the menu card definitely cause uneasiness when the breadwinner takes his family to hotels. When the bill arrives, various charges like VAT, Service Tax, and Service Charges will be added. This surely upsets the budget for the month. So, it is always better to cook in the house anytime rather than going to hotels. Home food tastes always better, even during weekends.

The urge to shop: It is better to restrict one’s urge to buy whatever appeals to the eye when going out for shopping. Curb your desire and buy only what is very essential.

Magazines and Newspapers: It is better to avoid 3 or 4 newspapers or magazines just for the sake of status - better to buy 1 Tamil and 1 English newspapers.
