The central government is contemplating on a new scheme which will benefit over 10 Crore women who work in NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations).
The modification of the Constitution Act extending the maternity leave to 26 weeks in all organizations was recently passed in the Rajya Sabha. Following this, the central government is now contemplating on the introduction of a new scheme that will benefit 10 Crore women working in NGOS. This scheme would be operative similar to institutions like EPFO (Employee Provident Fund Organization) and ESI (Employee State Insurance).
In this scheme, the contribution of the woman employee subscriber and the government would be equal. The working women may opt to pay more subscription amounts. This sum would be helpful during the maternity period. The savings would attract interest as well. In case, the delivery does not occur during the stipulated period, the subscribers would be refunded the entire savings.
