Bharath University yesterday organized an Anti-Plastic rally to create awareness on the adverse effects of using plastic. Around 150 NCC Madras Group A cadets from various schools and colleges in Chennai participated in the rally. Col. Sunil Sharma, Group commander, Madras Group ‘A’, NCC, flagged off the rally.
The rally that started in Tambaram at 9:00 in the morning, reached the university campus in the noon. The cadets carried placards with slogans against the use of plastic. They also distributed pamphlets to the public addressing the need to act with social and moral responsibility. Dr. Kathir Viswalingam, Dean-Engineering, Bharath University, who guided the rally, encouraged the students and the cadets to carry on with their good work that they were doing for the society. The rally came to an end at the university with the guests of honor appreciating the work done by the students and presenting them with mementos for participating in the rally.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr K. P. Thooyamani, Vice-Chancellor, Bharath University said, “Students should be sensitized on social problems and should be reminded of their social responsibilities time and again, to nurture them as a socially conscious person. The NCC cadets have done a great job by spreading the message on the adverse effects of plastics. I congratulate our University NCC unit head, Lt. R. Udayakumar, Company Commander-Bharath University for organizing a successful rally.”
