Koodankulam plant protesters call off fast after Jaya assurance

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today ensured that the protests at Koodankulam against a nuclear reactor came to an end, after she held tallks with representatives of the agitators in Chennai.

The Chief Minister, during her talks, assured the representatives that a Cabinet resolution against the plant would be passed on Thursday.

Speaking after meeting the Chief Minister, members of the movement against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) said they urged Jayalalithaa to pass a Cabinet resolution against the plant.

`As we got an assurance from her to that effect we called off our protest,` one of the coordinators of the protest movement, said.
