Tamil Nadu Government has decided to implement Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) Grade system for Classes I to VIII in all schools from 2012-13. Class IX and X will be covered in 2013-14.
How Grades are Calculated:
- Each terms Formative Assessment for 40 marks and Summative Assessment for 60 marks will be conducted for Scholastic Area
- In Formative Assessment, 20 marks is allotted for written tests and 20 marks for skill activity test. There will 6 written tests (5 marks each) and 6 skill activity test (5 mark each). The marks of best 4 tests in written and skill test will be taken and recorded for 40 marks
- Summative Assessment for 60 marks will be paper pen test at the end of each term
- After combining Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment (40+60) total 100 marks Grades will be given as follows,
A1 Grade - 10 Points - 91-100 marks
A2 Grade - 9 Points - 81-90 marks
B1 Grade - 8 Points - 71-80 marks
B2 Grade - 7 Points - 61-70 marks
C1 Grade - 6 Points - 51-60 marks
C2 Grade - 5 Points - 41-50 marks
D Grade - 4 Points - 33-40 marks
E1 Grade - No Points - 21-32 marks
E2 Grade - No Points - 20 and below marks
- For Non Scholastic area the assessment methodology for each area will be given in Teacher`s Manual. The meaning of Grades will be as follows, A-Excellent, B - Very Good, C-Good, D-Satisfactory, E-Needs Improvement
Grading System:
a) For Scholastic Area, Grades will be given on 9 - Point Scale, namely A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D, E1, E2
b) For Co Scholastic Areas Grades will be awarded on 5 - Point Scale, namely A, B, C, D, E
