Onam is a government holiday in Chennai

The Tamil Nadu government has announced that Sept. 14 will be a local holiday in Chennai district on account of Onam.
In an official statement, the district collector said, The holiday had been declared as per the orders of the government. In lieu of the local holiday, October 8, Saturday, will be a working day for government offices and educational institutions in the district. However, district treasury and sub-treasury offices would function on September 14 for the convenience of the public.
