Vinayaga statues to be immersed in the sea- police security beefed up in the city

Vinayaga statues which will be brought in procession will be immersed in the sea tomorrow and day after tomorrow.
 
Vinayaka Chaturthi festival was celebrated throughout the country on 5th of September, Vinayaka statues adorned the city in more than 3000 places. 2450 statues have been installed by Hindu Munnani, Hindu Makkal Katchi, Bharath Hindu Munnani, Vishva Hindu Prashid, Shiva Sena and RSS. All these statues are more than 20 feet height.  
 
The Chennai police are going all out to ensure peaceful immersions of Lord Vinayaka`s idols this weekend. Security arrangements are on in full swing at the places allotted for the immersions.
 
This year, six locations have been granted permissions. These include Srinivasapuram in Pattinapakkam, Palkalai Nagar in Neelankarai, fishing port in Kasimedu, at the backside of the weighing station at Tiruvottiyur, near the Universal Carborundum Company, and Ramakrishna Nagar in Ennore.
 
A total of 12,000 police personnel have been deployed for this purpose, while over 200 areas had earlier been shortlisted to place the idols and to conduct the poojas.
