Chennai Metro Rail Limited has decided to collect the rail fare from the mobile balance.

Metro Rails are being operated between Alandur and Koyambedu in Chennai. Now the operations between Little Mount and Airport will commence this month. Tamil Nadu Government is making efforts for the launching function.

Similarly the trail run is taking place between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar underground stretch. It has been decided to complete all the works related to metro rail by 2017. At this juncture in order to attract the metro rail commuters various amenities are being devised.

The smart card usage is now in vogue. Passengers need nor stand in long queue to buy tickets. Now in order to simplify this procedure it has been decided to collect the fare from the commuters mobile phone balance.

An official of CMRL said; Metro Rail service is being operated for 10 kms between Koyambedu and Alandur. 20 thousand commuters are using the service in the sector. On holidays nearly 30000 to 40000 commuters travel in metro rail. Very soon the services between Airport and Little Mount will commence. Similarly when we begin the operations for 45 kms stretch next year, the numbers of passengers will increase. We will be giving much importance to the amenities for the travellers. We are concentrating on speedy service to the commuters. Apart from this we have decided to open coffee shops, shopping malls and eateries at important stations. As of now some of the commuters use smart cards issued by the ticket counters. In the next stage we have decided to deduct the ticket fare from the commuters’ mobile balance. SMS will be sent confirming the ticket. Talks are being held with telecom companies with regard to this. If this comes into effect people need not wait in queues to buy tickets from the counters. We will soon be developing the ticket app.
