Around 600 omnibuses operate daily from the Chennai Koyambedu Bus terminus. This jumps to 1000 omnibuses during the festive occasions. In order to avoid the hectic travel rush from only one place, the public has been demanding that the buses for different places should be sorted and start operating from 2 or 3 different places.

There was a review meeting about this issue, chaired by the Minister Vijayabhaskar yesterday (Tuesday, 13th October).

It was decided during the meeting that all the long-distance buses will start from 3 different places on the occasion of the popular Deepavali festival.

Information is gathered that 40 percent of the buses proceeding to southern districts will start from either Vandalur or Gooduvanchery. Some buses will start from East Coast Road section and Madhavaram.

The details of the starting point of the different buses for different destinations will be released in a few days.

It is a general trend over the last few years that there are heavy traffic jams encountered especially during the festive occasions. Because of this, apart from the passengers, the other normal public returning from their workplaces also get affected.

The meeting was held with the state transport minister to discuss methods to prevent the heavy traffic jams. The transport officials declared that keeping Chennai Metro city as the centre, the buses will start from 3 different places in the South, North, and West parts of the Metro city.
