It all becomes the first ever cabinet meeting addressed by O Pannerselvam, State Finance Minister, who is now chairing the meet now as he is allotted with the portfolios handled by J Jayalalitha after her hospitalization. This meeting will conclude with the appointment of special officers to local bodies all over Tamil Nadu.
The meeting was decided exactly one week from Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao handed over the portfolios of TN CM Ms. J. Jayalalitha that he was handling to O Pannerselvam. The Cabinet meet that is happening now will result in the appointment of special officers upon 1 Lakh Local Bodies. This is all due to the term expiring on October 24 and in accordance to Madras High Court stalled the local body elections for a while, which was supposed to happen in two different phases for October 17 and 19.
A senior official from the ruling party has cited that with Madras High Court postponing the elections to over four weeks, the necessity has become crucial to appoint special officers for the administrative purpose of local bodies.
The official announcement involving the appointment of special officers to appoint special officers to corporations, municipalities, town panchayats, village panchayats, district panchayats and union panchayats will be made after the appointment during this cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet meeting will also discuss the Cauvery issue as the opposite political parties are pressuring to take the issue towards Prime Minister of India regarding a amicable decision.
