The demonetized rupee notes worth Rs 500 and Rs 1000 are accepted by the Indian railways for an extended period. These notes can be used for ticketing and onboard catering and ticket refund until 14th November.
At the time of demonetizing these notes on 8th and 9th November, it was announced that the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will be accepted at government hospitals, railway stations, public transport, airports, milk booths, crematoria or burial grounds, petrol pumps, etc for the next 72 hours.
Now, according to a railway spokesperson, these demonetized currency notes are extended till 14th November for usage and all the Indian Railways officials are instructed to comply with the same.
The official also added that for refund of cancelled tickets, the money would be given as Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) and not as cash. Announcements have been made that refund for ticket cancellation will only be made as Ticket Deposit Receipt. In cases where the ticket refund amount is above Rs 10,000, the customer shall receive the refund directly into his or her bank account. For this, the customer ought to give out all the bank details to receive the amount while cancelling tickets.
