Out of the 2.2 lakh ATM centres present across India, 82,500 of them are set to get shifted so as to disperse new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes. In his statement about this, Rithuraj Sinha, said 82,500 ATMs were newly opened on the evening on Monday to disperse new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes. This number counts to 40 percent of total 2.2 lakh ATMs.
The ATMs are also revamped by a special association formed to deliver the newly printed rupee notes, abiding by the government’s order to facilitate the public.
All these tasks are done so as to ensure regional balance and give importance to rural areas. Following the revamping done, it is now possible for the ATMs to have Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh rupees. This move has largely reduced the crowd outside ATM centres.
Until the recent revamping, ATMs were able to store only up to Rs 5 lakh worth Rs 100 notes. This had been getting emptied in a jiffy, but now complete renovation of all ATMs across the country is being done. On a daily basis, nearly 12,000 to Rs 14,000 ATMs are renovated. These works will get over by the end of this month and the task is taking place in full swing.
