The central government has been encouraging financial transactions through Aadhar card for the growth towards cashless economic measures.
As Aadhar card has a biometric reference base, the central government has been considering involving Aadhar cards in the activities in many other services as well.
The central government is considering designing an App for the facility to make payments through Aadhar cards instead of credit cards or debit cards. This App can be used in any mobile phone. With this App, money transactions can be made to trading agencies, shops, etc. using the Aadhar card.
The Chief Executive Officer of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), Mr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, explained that so far, the approval to use Biometric-based Aadhar cards has increased to 40 Crores. UIDAI has started initiating full awareness activities in order to increase more transactions through Aadhar card. He also mentioned that Aadhar cards are being used as the attendance register in the public sector institutions/establishments.
He informed that Aadhar cards can be used for payment in trading agencies and shops instead of credit or debit cards. The amount involved will be directly transferred from the buyer’s bank account to the bank account of the selling shop.
Presently, 118 public and private sector establishments are using Aadhar cards.
