Northeast monsoon rains this year less than average by 66%

The Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre gave an interview to the press reporters:

The cyclonic storm formation vardah is stationed over the Southeast part of the Bay of Bengal and it has moved to the area over the Southeast 990 km from Vizag.

From yesterday till today, the cyclonic for has been drifting at the speed of 2 km per hour.

In the next 2 days, this is expected to move towards the Northeast and will cross the coast on 12th December between Nellore and Kakinada.

It may weaken before crossing the coast. The fishermen from Tamil Nadu are warned not to venture to go to the Andhra coastal area.

It may rain in a few places in Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours. There are no prospects of rain in Chennai.

This year, the Northeast monsoon rainy season has brought rains 66% less than the average rainfall expected.
