The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) will take a call on reducing the daily supply of water to the city suburbs. The city is already feeling the pinch, with several areas facing water shortage and Metrowater supply erratic. Cyclone Vardah helped marginally improve water levels in the four reservoirs, but officials are struggling to bring the two desalination plants up to the optimum level of 100 million litres per day (MLD). It has been decided to distribute water to suburbs on alternate days. Authorities continue to supply 831 million litres of water daily.
