The information is gathered that in order to tide over the current acute shortage of currency notes, it has been decided to print triple the number of Rs. 500 currency notes printed and action has been initiated.
There are 4 currency note printing presses in India – Mysore in Karnataka, Salboni in West Bengal, Nasik in Maharashtra and Dewas in Madhya Pradesh.
The quantity of Rs. 500 currency notes printed in Nasik has been tripled. Till mid-November, 35 Lakhs of Rs. 500 currency notes were being printed daily in Nasik. Now this quantity has been raised to 1 Crore from 35 Lakhs.
Presently, 1.90 Crore notes of currency are being printed daily.1 Crore notes of Rs. 500 currency notes are printed daily. 90 Lakhs of currency notes of Rs. 100, Rs. 50, and Rs. 20 denominations are printed daily. Rs 2000 currency notes are not being printed in Nasik.
A quantity of 4.3 Crore currency notes has been dispatched from Naik on yesterday (Friday, 23rd December) alone.Out of this 1.1 Core notes are of Rs. 500. 1,2 Crore notes are of Rs. 100.Similarly, 1 Crore notes each of denominations Rs. 50 and Rs. 20 have also been printed and dispatched to the Reserve Bank of India yesterday alone.
The information has been gathered that since the demonetization of the notes of old Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500, .a total of 82.80 Crores of currency notes of various denominations have been printed and dispatched over the last 43 days.
Counting the last 3 days only, a quantity of Rs. 3.75 Crores of Rs. 500 currency notes have been dispatched.It is further gathered that additional 80 Crore currency notes are to be printed and dispacthed before 31st January. Half of this 80 Crore notes will be of Rs. 500 denomination.
