Traffic changes in Chennai on New Year Eve

Marina beach and Elliots Beach will attract thousands of people on Kamrajar Salai and Besant Nagar to celebrate New Year Eve on 31.12.2016 night. In order to regulate the traffic and ensure smooth flow of public vehicles with a view to celebrate the New Year without any accident, on the “New Year Eve” the following traffic arrangements are made.
A) Traffic Bandobust arrangements on Kamarajar Salai & Rajaji Salai.
- All Foreshore Road entries will be barricaded on 31.12.2016 from 21.00 hrs onwards to prevent the vehicles entry to the Beach Foreshore road.
- Vehicles inside the foreshore road will be allowed to exit in Kamarajar Salai only up to 21.00 hrs. After 21.00 hrs inside parked vehicles will be allowed to exit only from the backside of the Light House.
- Vehicles will not be allowed on Kamrajar Salai between the stretch from Gandhi Statue up to War Memorial from 21.00 hrs on 31.12.2016 to 02.00 hrs. on 1.01.2017.
- Approach roads towards Kamaraj Salai, Lloyds Road, Besant Road, Ayodhi Nagar, Sunguvar Street, Bharathi Salai, Wallaja Road, Swami Sivanandha Salai junctions will be barricaded completely to prevent vehicles entering into Kamarajar Salai from 21.00 hrs onwards.
- Vehicles will not be allowed from Wallajah point and RBI North sub way towards War Memorial from 21.00 hrs and will be diverted towards NSC Bose Road to reach EVR Salai and Anna Salai. .
- Vehicles coming from RK Salai, Wallajah Road, Bharathi Salai, Lloyds Road, Dr Besant Road, Adams Road, Flagstaff Road, War Memorial will not be allowed from 21.00 hrs towards Kamarajar Salai and commuters can park their vehicles in the earmarked parking places.
- Vehicles coming from Adyar towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarer Koil St and Santhome High road jn. towards Karaneeswarer Koil Jn to take the route via Natesan Road, Ice House Junction, Triplicane High Road, Wallajah Road to reach Anna Salai.
- Vehicles from North intended to go towards Adyar will be diverted from RBI North from 21.00 hrs towards NSC Bose Road, EVR Salai, Anna Salai, Wellington, GP Road, Royapettha High Road, Luz Junction, RK Mutt Road to reach their destination.
- No vehicles will be permitted to exit the Foreshore Road to enter the Kamarajar Salai and the vehicles will be diverted towards Light House to take the route via Foreshore Notchikuppam Loop Road to reach South Canal Road and Santhome High Road.
B) Traffic arrangements at Elliot’s Beach.
- On Besant Nagar at Elliots Beach vehicles will not be allowed after 21.00 hrs on 31.12.2016 inside 6th Avenue Elliots Beach till 02.00 hrs on 01.01.2017.
- 6th Avenue will be blocked at 5th Avenue jn, the 4th Main Road jn., 3rd Main Road jn, 16th Cross street jn and vehicles will not be allowed from 7th Avenue MG Road jn towards Vellankanni Church.
C) VEHICLE PARKING PLACES
- Swamy Sivananda Salai – One side
- Railway Basement at MRTS Chepauk.
- MRTS, Lloyds Road.
- Queen Mary’s College campus.
- One side on Dr Besant Road
- One side on Lloyds Road
- One side on Besant Nagar 4th Avenue
