A three-day State-level philately exhibition commenced today at Amma Arangam, Shenoy Nagar. The exhibition will be till 8th January. Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu circle while speaking to the media said: Philately exhibition is being organized in Chennai after 20 years. Such exhibitions are organized to spark interest among school students to take up stamp collection as a hobby. Besides stamps, first-day covers, miniature sheets, and other stationery that have collector’s value would be exhibited under various themes.
For the first time in India, postal letter exhibition is also taking place. The letters written by former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, former president of India A P J Abdul Kalam, play back signer Lata Mangeshkar , Hindi actor Amitabh Bachchan and Tamil leading actors and actresses are being displayed here.
After demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes, there are 66 money orders lying in Park Town Branch due to cash crunch. It has been decided to deliver the money in Rs 10 coins. There is also problem in dispensing pension money. From November to December void Rs 500 and Rs 1000 have been exchanged in post offices to the tune of Rs 362 Crores, 2 thousand 577 Crores invalid notes have been deposited in the post offices.
So far 97 postal ATMs were installed on trial basis. This has been technically successful. It has not been officially activated. So far 1 Lakhs ATM cards have been distributed. By end of this month another 1 lakhs cards will be distributed. One can use this ATM card in any State Bank ATMs and withdraw cash. Very soon customers can withdraw cash from all the bank ATMs. Postal banking will commence during the last week of march. After this postal department will contact RBI and begin cash transactions.
