Now, you can open your National Pension System, NPS, account online through eNPS. Till recently, you still had to submit physical forms. But now if you are opening your NPS account online through Aadhaar, you don’t need to submit any papers.
You can open your online account on this web address
www.npstrust.org.in and then go to eNPS. To open your account online, you will need to have a mobile number, an email ID and an active bank account with Net banking facility. You start the process by registering yourself with your Aadhaar number. A one-time password, OTP, will be sent to the Aadhaar-registered mobile phone number. Once verified, you will have to fill up information such as your bank details, and choose your pension fund manager and your asset allocation. Active choice option lets you choose an asset allocation and you can choose from four investment fund options: equity fund, in which you can put up to 50% of your money; alternative investment fund, in which you can’t put more than 5% of your money; government securities fund; and corporate bond fund.
You then have to scan and upload a digital signature. The signature image should be in JPG format. With Aadhaar, a photograph appears automatically, which you can change with another one. After making the contributions you go to the next page, which is e-sign/print registration form page. If you choose to e-sign with Aadhaar, an OTP for the purpose of authentication will be sent to your mobile number registered with the Aadhaar. Once you key in the OTP and Aadhaar gets authenticated, your registration will be considered as signed electronically. With this, you no longer have to take a printout and submit the form.
But to use this facility, you need to pay Rs 5, which will be debited from your contributions.
