The Honorable Supreme Court has directed the central government to find a mechanism to ensure the verification of mobile phone subscribers. A NGO Lok Nidhi had filed a public litigation in the Supreme Court of India. In that petition it has been mentioned: There is increase in the mobile phones in our country. Many messages are being spread from these phones. It is not known whether it is true or not because their identity is not known. So in view of this all the mobile users should be verified.
This petition came before Chief Justice of India JS Khehar yesterday. Judges while speaking said: It is true that there is an increase in mobile phone users. Apart from speaking, the mobile is used for many services including cash transactions. In view of this the government should get back with a mechanism to vet the identity of all mobile phone subscribers in the country.
The Supreme Court Monday gave government fifteen days to put in place a mechanism for proper verification of all mobile phone subscribers at the time of issuing SIM cards.
