In Bangalore city, very soon, unique digital number system will become a reality. This will be based on geo-spatial location. The state government is eying on setting it under Smart City Mission by the centre.

This method is conceived along the line of Aadhar card. It will be helpful in precisely pointing address. Every single address of the city will be given an 8-digit alphanumeric code named the standardized digital address number. Later on, centralized repository will be turned public, says nodal officer of the smart city project, Muralidhara Turuvekere. The digital numbering system will automatically tag every house under the global positioning system (GPS) which allows tracking on Google Maps.

For this to be possible in Bengaluru, the city should first of all get qualified in the Smart City competition the finale of which is scheduled to take place next month. The state government has suggested five different proposals of which the digital address system is one.

Land parcels that has no property built within will also be included in the digital system. The cadastral maps and survey and subdivision numbers will be linked to each other. To note, cadastral maps are those maps that carry details of owner, taxation, etc apart from geographical details. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) maintains this map.
