The Reserve Bank of India, Chennai Branch in a press release has mentioned: The Indian Reserve Bank circulates the coins minted by the Indian government. The coins will be under circulation for a long time. Hence the shape and sizes of the coins may vary from time to time. In July 2011, a small change was introduced. New 10 rupee coins are released with the rupee symbol and some coins without the rupee symbol. Though there is variation, both of them are legal tender and equally valid for transactions. Some of the ignorant people are creating doubts on the creditability of the coins among the lay people including small merchants. This doubt should be avoided. Hence the public are requested to use these coins since they are valid for transactions.
