The central government has announced that Passport Seva Kendras will be opened on 28th February at Salem and Vellore head post offices.
The objective of Post Office Passport Seva Kendra is to extend passport services on a larger scale and to ensure wider area coverage.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Posts (DOP) are jointly working on Post Office Passport Seva Kendras.
On trial basis, Post Office Passport Seva Kendra was inaugurated in Mysore Head Post Office. Shri Ananth Kumar, Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Gen (Retd.) Dr. V.K.Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Shri Jaswantsinh Sumanbhai Bhabhor, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs jointly inaugurated the Mysore Post Office Passport Seva Kendra.
If there is popularity in this scheme amongst the people, the central government has decided to expand Post Office Passport Seva Kendras in 56 more head post offices in various states. As a part of this, Post Office Passport Seva Kendras will be inaugurated at Salem and Vellore head post offices on 28th in Tamil Nadu.
Salem Post Office Passport Seva Kendra will be under the jurisdiction of Chennai Regional Passport office and Vellore Post Office Passport Seva Kendra will be under the jurisdiction of Coimbatore Passport office.
