Satya Nadella unveils Skype Lite for Indian users

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella made announcement about Skype Lite mobile app for Indian mobile users in the Future Decoded event at Mumbai. As articulated in the name, this is a lighter, mobile-friendly version of Skype, a popular video calling app. Note that the app is available for Indian users only.
 
The Director of Product Management at Skype, Eugene Ho pointed Skype to be of great help for people to get closer. He claims this to be the first of its kind app built on PC platform.
 
Skype Lite is tested for Indian consumers. The app is built by Microsoft’s development centre at Hyderabad. Indian market still has issues with connectivity. Skype Lite is hardly of 13 MB and still has the same functionality as the original app. Further, the Lite app supports seven prominent Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Urudu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, etc.
 
Ho stated that India still has connectivity issues. Skype Lite is an opportunity to have the app despite such issues. It works both on high as well as low speed. It is intended for Indian customers and gets powered by new cloud services.
 
Reduced size, instant messaging including audio and video calling, etc are among the features of the app. Sign up can be done using users’ mobile number or usual Skype id.
