Blue print and project evaluation work is being done to build a new flyover which will link Alandur Thillai Ganga Nagar to GST Road. An inner ring road has been laid from GST road to Velacherry via Thillai Ganga Nagar. Railway subways at Thillai Ganga Nagar, Pazhavanthangal, Meenambakkam and St Thomas Mount link this inner ring road. Lakhs of commuters who travel by trains and buses are using these subways.
But during heavy down pour of rains, these subways get submerged in water very fast. Even if there is lighter rain, the water has to be sucked out by pumps. Pumps cannot be used during heavy rains. Hundreds of buses that ply in this route have to be stopped. Two wheelers and autos cannot ply in these sub ways.
Because of this, it is not possible to reach various places like Pazhavanthangal, Nanganallur, Adambakkam, Thillai Ganga Nagar, Madipakkam and Keelkattalai directly from GST Road. In view of this, the residents have been demanding for a flyover from Thillai Ganga Nagar to GST Road for the last five years. The state government made an announcement in the state assembly during the month of August that State Highways Department plans to build a six-lane, one- km-long flyover and the project is estimated to cost Rs. 85 crore.
In connection with this an official of the State Highways Department said: Works connected with this flyover has begun. Acquisition of lands is being done and will soon be completed. We are also preparing the plan. After finalizing the cost of the project, the tender will be floated and the construction will begin.
