Power cuts that are often in guise of maintenance in Tamil Nadu will not be a problem this year. All the maintenance works in sub-stations and transmission lines will be wrapped up by end of this month, say sources from TANGEDCO. There will be no need for maintenance from 1st March which avoids shutting down of supply.
There are 842 sub-stations of various capacities across the state and 24,497km length power transmission lines. Well before summer, the maintenance works will be completed. In the past few weeks, a surge in demand is observed due to humid weather. However, maintenance works cannot be stopped as this may create trouble during peak summer days. The demand in April 2016 was 15,000 MW, to note, says a TANGEDCO official.
The SRMC feeder was under maintenance on Saturday and the work started early in the morning that day. Power supply to Alwarthirunagar was restored at 02.30 pm. There has been periodic power cut between 9 am and 2 pm all over the state. Most power cuts are made on Saturdays and hence, the weekend routines of households are hit due to this. All the Saturday plans get spoilt when there is power cut in the morning on Saturdays.
