Microsoft to cease Skype Wi-Fi services

Reliable sources state that following the announcement about launch of exclusive Skype Lite app, a Made in India product for the Indian users, Microsoft will cease Skype Wi-Fi services. After 31st of March, the Skype Wi-Fi app will get delisted and not be functional. With this app, users were able to get in touch with one of the 2 million hotspots across the world.

This app was of great help for users and eliminated the need for signing up using different Wi-Fi providers. The users could login to their Skype accounts on the move. It was available on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, and MacOS. The users make payment for this usage via Skype Credit.

By ceasing the service, Microsoft would rather focus on its core Skype features. The Skype Credit saved on Skype Wi-Fi user accounts can be used to make calls or text messages from the standard Skype app. Alternatively, one can get in touch with the Skype customer care for getting full refund.

A hint about Skype Lite – all the functionalities of its elder sibling will be retained, but there are amendments done in terms of Skype Lite’s algorithm and will be able to work under low bandwidth.
