Arrangements are being made to implement an increase in the toll fare in 20 toll gate centres in Tamil Nadu.
Out of these 20 tollgates, 14 operated as toll tax collection centres. Apart from the private agencies who operate the tolls, the National Highway Board is also collecting toll fare.
In the toll gates of Tamil Nadu, the rates are revised up in 3 phases every year – September, 1st April, and 15th October. Permission has been granted to increase the toll fare by 10 percent every year.
Once the cost of laying the highway is recovered, it is naturally expected that the toll tax should be reduced. However, the trend in increasing the toll fare is continued citing various reasons, including the expansion of new roads and creation of a new organization for toll fare collection, etc.
Accordingly, the increase in toll fare is set to be implemented in 20 toll gates in the state of Tamil Nadu.
