The details and proof of Aadhar and PAN card have been made compulsory for registration of new vehicles in all RTOs (Regional Transport Offices).
There are 65 RTOs in the state of Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, there are more than 60 Unit Offices.
More than 2000 persons obtain new driving licenses daily from these offices. An average of 600 persons registers their new vehicles.

Different tasks such as allotment of registration number for new vehicles and the change of the name of the auto owners are being carried out in these offices.
The Central Ministry of Highways has decided to eliminate the fake driving licenses and has taken several measures for this purpose.
Meanwhile, the state government of Tamil Nadu has ordered that the details and proof of Aadhar and PAN cards must be furnished while applying for registration of new vehicles.
In this connection, an official from the department of Transport Commissioner informed that the Office of the Tamil Nadu Transport Department has ordered that the details of Aadhar and PAN cards must be furnished while applying for registration of new vehicles.
This order is effective right away. These details will be linked to the other details of the vehicle owner. This would enable quick identification vehicle thefts. Further, the person who causes accidents and absconds from the accident spots can be traced easily. In a similar action, the roof of Aadhar card details should also be made compulsory as an address proof while applying for the drivers license. It has also been ordered that the blood group of the driver must be compulsorily entered while issuing the driver license.
