Exam time is when students are put into complete panic and chaos. Their anxiety level upticks and so will insecurity. Students tend to be obsessed with their exam scores, future path, career choice, self-worth, identity and prestige.

As parents and teachers, one should not focus on brushing off their anxiety, rather we need to teach them how to fight and combat.

Dr. Sameer Malhotra, the head of Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket gives a few tips for improving the mental strength of students to have a stress-free and happy exam time.

First of all, digest the fact that anxiety is a result of stress. So, getting enough sleep will help fight it. Not getting enough sleep and investing the entire day and night for studies can harm your body and cause dizziness, dullness and irritability. Getting restful sleep can help in aiding brain functions and also improve focus. Get at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep for getting energized and improve immunity. Listen to light music for calming down your mind as you fall asleep.

Healthy breakfast:
Eating healthy breakfast is highly important. A good and nutrition rich breakfast greatly helps in staying productive throughout the day.

Equip yourself for better focus:
Take a few minutes of break. Sit back and breathe out and get yourself mentally ready for preparing for the exam. A minor planning can make a huge difference

Plan your breaks:
You need to plan your breaks rather than reading until you get drained. You can take small breaks every now and then and have your mind calm and clear. Head out for a short walk as it can refresh your mind.

Adieu to social media:
Digest the fact that social media are plainly distractions. Do not have your mobile phone next to your notes. Instead, turn it off and set it in airplane mode.

Be practical in fixing targets:
Be honest to yourself while fixing targets. There should be a realistic revision table. Schedule your revisions for your most productive hours so as to obtain best results.

Go one step at a time:
Plan the total number of revisions you need to do. Take simple steps and concentrate on one task that is at hand.

Manage symptoms:
Recognize symptoms and address them immediately. There are many symptoms like worrying, apprehensions, etc. Recognize and resolve them quick.
