Forming the largest telecom operator of the country, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India have announced a merger today. The merger Vodafone India along with Idea Cellular, the third top player in the country will together for the largest operator in India. This will encompass over 40 crore customers under its roof. In other words, 1 in every 3 customers will belong to the largest bandwagon.
In their recent statement, the two companies: Aditya Birla’s Idea Cellular and Vodafone India mentioned the duo to form the largest telecom operator in the country and that it will create a pan-India 3G or 4G footprint.
At present, the largest telecom operator in the country is Airtel. With Reliance Jio’s entry into the sector, it has created an urge for consolidation in the Indian telecom.
When Vodafone and Idea combine together, the duo will be in a better position to combat with Reliance Jio and Airtel.
This combo will aid Aditya Birla group in creating high quality digital infrastructure which will help more Indian population to migrate towards digital life and make Digital India easily possible, said Chairman of Aditya Birla Kumar Mangalam Birla.
