Google India and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology are likely to partner. This team up will work on Digital Payments Security Alliance in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India, said Rajan Anandan, the Vice President of South East Asia and India.

At a time when the country is migrating towards a digital and cashless economy, this move has acquired huge attention.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his meet with Sundar Pichai, the Google CEO in January this year, had discussed about digital security. At the same time, the Telecom, IT and law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had requested Google to associate with the nation on digital security.

There are a number of debit and credit card breaches and hacks all of which proclaim chinks in the system. This has forced the government to take necessary measures on the digital security front.

A study conducted by Google and Boston Consulting Group said that about $500 billion growth is estimated in terms of digital payments industry in India by 2020. This research was conducted before the demonetization was announced where old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were banned. Hence, digital payments will furthermore improve in leaps and bounds, believes Anandan.
