In Tamil Nadu, the daily need for power is 14,689 MW. The demand is met using thermal and renewable energy sources.

Hot sun is increasing the temperature and humidity, and so is the power demand, particularly during evening times when domestic consumers tend to use the air conditioners often.

As compared to last year, the industrial demand for power is also increasing, however drastic drought has brought down the power demand for farmers. TANGEDCO however hopes to meet the power demand of close to 16,000MW without the need for power cuts.

Marking the record demand of the season, the intra-evening demand was 14,689MW. Domestic consumers, industries and farmers have contributed to this. With tremendous increase in use of air conditioners, there is drastic increase in every day power need, says a TANGEDCO official.

Paddy crops are water intensive and have turned a failure. Hence, they have started opting for crops that need lesser water. The official added that 14 hours of 3 phase power is being supplied at the delta regions that have opted to cultivate pulses. So far, the record demand in the state is 15,343MW which was on 29th April last year.
