The pro-Tamil groups like Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had protested against superstar Rajinikanth’s visit to Jaffna event on 9th April.

Ramesh Bala, the Trade analyst had shared Rajinikanth’s letter on Twitter that reads that the superstar will not take part in the event, in spite of disagreeing with the reasons claimed by Thirumavalavan and Vaiko.

Rajinikanth was about to travel to Sri Lanka on 9th April. Gnanam productions had erected a Rs 22 crore housing project in regions hit by the 26-year old civil war that ended in 2009.

Rajinikanth claims that he had plans to visit Sri Lanka so that he can visit places where Tamils lived and meet Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to arrive at a solution to the fishermen problem. I am not a politician, just an artist, Rajinikanth says.

Thol. Thirumavalavan said he does not have any personal agenda opposing Rajinikanth. Though being good friends, I strongly oppose Rajinikanth’s visit to the event organized by Lyca which has made business tie-up with the Sri Lankan government.

Statement issued by the Lyca Productions state that Rajinikanth was on cards to visit Lanka and handover keys of houses built by Gnanam Foundations for the Tamils.

Lyca however is based in Sri Lanka. And it protested against Rajinikanth’s visit.

The Eelam issue has been giving rise to heated debates for years in Tamil Nadu. The pro-Tamil groups in fact protested against Vijay’s Kaththi that got released in 2014 and called for banning the film which was produced by Lyca productions too.

The actor was to travel to Sri Lanka on 9th April to start a Rs 22 crore housing project by the Gnanam Foundation which is a charitable organisation in the northern regions hit by the 26-year-old civil war that came to end in 2009.
