With an aim of providing better connectivity at remote locations, the Railways department will be setting up Wi-Fi hotspot kiosks in over 500 stations. It is believed that these kiosks will help in providing range of online services including that of different government services.

These kiosks are launched as Railwire Saathi. These Wi-Fi kiosks will function as PCO for the Digital India. This will provide e-commerce, online banking, train and bus services, and so on.

The other services on cards with the Railwire Saathi are form filling, mobile and DTH recharge. These are to be provided with limited connectivity.

In the unconnected areas and places where there are job opportunities, the Railwire Saathi aims at providing better connection, said a senior official. In over 400 stations, the Railways is planning to launch free Wi-Fi services. This is to be implemented in connection with Google. Providing connectivity as well as job is the ultimate aim of the scheme. By May this year, the scheme will be operational.

Railwire Saathi can be defined as an entrepreneurship model where training and support for youths, especially women can be provided. This is to set up free Wi-Fi hotspot and provide a platform for online services that will take the business way higher.
