Sacred flag-hoisting for the grand Panguni Uthiram festival at Palani temple today

The famous and the annually traditional Panguni Uthiram festival celebrated at the Palani temple of Lord Muruga. Commences today with the sacred flag-hoisting ceremony.

The divine wedding and the silver chariot procession of the deity will be performed on 8th April.

The special sacred Panguni Uthiram chariot procession is scheduled on 9th April.

Throughout the grand Panguni Uthiram festival, the deities of Lord Muthukumaraswamy along with his 2 Consorts Valli and Deva Sena will be taken in a procession along the temple corridors on different special carriages including Silver Kamadhenu (Sacred Cow), Silver Ram (goat), Golden Peacock, Silver elephant, and golden horse.

The divine marriage is scheduled on 8th April. This will be followed by the procession of the Lord in a silver chariot adorned with electric lights along the temple corridors.

The most important event of the festival, the Panguni Uthiram Sacred Chariot procession, is scheduled at 4.20 PM on 9th April.

The Lord along with his consorts will be taken on a procession on the carriage of the golden horse along the temple corridors on 12th April.

After this event, the sacred flag is drawn down signalling the end of the grand Panguni Uthiram Festival in the famous Palani Temple of Lord Muruga.

The procession on the golden chariot is sponsored by the temple administration and is scheduled on 7th April. After this, there would be no procession on the golden chariot for the next 5 days (from Saturday, 8th April to Wednesday, 12th April).

During the grand festival, other entertainment programmes such as devotional music concert, Pattimandram (Group debate), and Bharathanatyam are being arranged in the Giriveedhi Kudamuzhukku Memorial Hall at the feet of the Palani Hills.
