Intensity of summer heat up in Chennai

The Chennai Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan has advised the public not to venture going out in the hot midafternoon sun.

With just the onset of summer, the temperature has already touched 100 Degrees Fahrenheit as early as the 1st week of April.

Indian Weather Bureau has already warned that the summer will be far more severe this year throughout the country.

So, it is the best to take all possible precautionary measures to protect ourselves from the scorching summer.

A brief on the press release by the Chennai Corporation Commissioner in this regard:

With the scorching summer, there is always the possibility of the public being affected by various health complaints. It is better for the public to follow a few precautionary measures.
  • Drink a lot of water daily and regularly.
  • Taking tender coconut, buttermilk, or fruit juices will help the body to remain cool.
  • Avoid fried food items and spicy food items.
  • Avoid venturing out in the blazing sun. If in an emergency, to go out, ensure using an umbrella or suitable cap/cloth cover for the head.
  • As sweating will be rather profuse, take water with glucose or sugar and a little salt especially during the day time.
  • If feeling giddy or dizzy while being out in the sun, take rest immediately under some shadow. Drink water. If still feeling sick, please visit the nearest government or corporation hospital.
  • Wash your face frequently with pure cold water.
  • It is better to take a bath twice a day - in the mornings and evenings.
  • Prefer wearing loose cotton clothing
  • Avoid tight dresses.
  • Do not allow children to play in the sun.
  • If symptoms of measles or Rubella are seen, visit the nearest government/corporation hospital.
  • Do not send children affected by the above to school.
  • Keep them isolated to the extent possible till they recover.
  • Do not eat unhygienically prepared food items.
  • Do not forget to use your footwear when going out.
