The amendment to The Motor Vehicle Act in the constitution with new clauses and modifications was passed in the parliament.
Road safety was accorded top priority and accordingly, the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 was passed in the parliament with a few amendments.
As per the amended Act, a penalty of Rs. 500 will be levied for any violation of traffic rules, Rs. 5000 will be the penalty for driving without the licence. Drunken driving will entail a penalty of Rs. 10000.
There were amendments made in the accident related insurance coverage. A maximum compensation of Rs. 10 Lakhs will be given for who die in accidents if covered, those who are injured will be given a maximum of Rs. 5 Lakhs.
The amendment has stressed on the compensation payment under accident coverage insurance to be paid immediately.
One of the main amendment is the inclusion of Aadhar card details as compulsory for driving licence and vehicle registration.
