Thirumangalam-Nehru Park underground services from next month

The tunnelling and all other associated works are completed in the section of the Metro Rail Project between Koyambedu and Nehru Park. The public service is set to start soon.

The Railway Safety Commission inspected the tunnelling work. In a session with the press reporters, the railway Safety Commissioner informed that safety inspection is being carried out today and tomorrow (13th and 14th April). A double track has been laid between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar.

Detailed safety checks are being carried out in respect of the passenger safety. The strength of the tracks, escalator, safety exit routes for the passengers in an emergency, and prevention of fire accidents are all considered in the safety inspection.

Question-answer sessions are conducted with the employees to assess their familiarity with the safety equipment and their usage.

A report will be presented after the inspection is completed. The central and the state governments will decide the inaugural day for the public service.

The Metro rail Project managing Director informed that the tunnelling activates in the 1st underground section are completed. Once the Safety Inspection report is approved, the public service will start. It may start before the end of the next month in the section Koyambedu-Nehru Park. Activities are progressing at a fast clip to ensure this.

The services between Koyambedu and Central will start before the year end. All the project activities for the balance work will be completed by the end of 2018.

Work on the new lines between Old Washermanpet and Thiruvortiyur- Wimco nagar expansion work will start before the end of 2019.
