As a follow-up to the state farmers agitating in New Delhi, and to express solidarity with them, film producer Gowthaman and his supporters `tied up` Kathipara Flyover on Thursday morning on 13th April.
The protest resulted in vehicles piling up Anna Salai, GST Road and Jawaharlal Nehru Salai for 45 minutes before police removed chains the protesters had placed near the flyover, freeing it for traffic.
Around 9.30 AM, over 20 protesters carrying banners and raising slogans against the Centre, descended on the spot. They tied chains across the road to the flyover and squatted in front of them.
The police team arrived 15 minutes later to placate the protesters but in vain. Until police forcibly removed and detained protesters led by Gowthaman for: the criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly and deterring public servants from discharging their duty.
Motorists were blocked from the flyover that links the southern and western suburbs. Two ambulances from Porur were stuck in the traffic.
Several road-users were caught by surprise.
