Summer vacation is set to start for all government high schools and higher secondary schools from 21st April.
There are 3040 government high schools and 2839 government higher secondary schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. The SSLC examination for the students of these schools started on 8th May and was completed on 29th May. The examination for the +2 students of these schools started on 2nd March and ended on 31st March.
The examinations for +1 students are already completed. Currently, the annual examinations for the classes from 6th standard to 9th standard are in progress.
20th April is set to be the last working day for all the government high schools and higher secondary schools. So, the summer vacation will commence from 21st April.
In the primary education segment, there are 33000 government primary schools and middle-level schools in Tamil Nadu. The examinations are in progress and the last day will be 28th April. So, for these schools, summer vacation is set to commence from 29th April.
The State Minister for school education informed that alternative dates for the examinations scheduled between 21st April and 29th April will be announced.
Usually, the schools reopen on 1st June after the summer vacation. In case 1st June falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the schools will reopen on the subsequent working day.
So, it is expected that all schools may reopen on 1st June. However, since summer so far has been quite severe and predicted to be hotter that average this year, the officials are exploring whether it would be possible to reopen the school on 1st June.
The classes for +1 students will commence on 15th June after the new admission routine gets completed.
This year, it has not so far been announced regarding the date of reopening of schools and the commencement of +1 classes.
