TTD (Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam Board) has announced that gold, silver, and copper dollars will be put up for sales in the Tirupathi temple on the special occasion of Akshaya Trithiyai day.
It has been a tradition over the past several decades of selling gold and silver dollars in Tirupathi temple.
On one side of the dollar, the statue of the Lord Srinivasa and on the other side of the dollar, the statue of his consort, Goddess Padmavathi is printed. These dollars are sold through Andhra Bank to the devotees.
In the current period, the sales of the dollars have picked up. There is the daily sale of Rs. 5 Lakhs to Rs. 7 Lakhs worth of the dollars on the normal weekdays.
During the festival periods, the sales is worth Rs. 10 Lakhs to Rs. 20 Lakhs.
During the occasion of Vaikunda Ekadasi, sales of dollars worth Rs. 13 lakhs on a single day was recorded.
On the occasions of Aanivaara Aasthanam, Brhamotsavam festival, and Yugadhi (Telugu New year day), dollars worth Rs. 20 Lakhs are sold.
One of the most important occasions in the Hindu calendar year, Akshaya Trithiyai falls during the next weekend. Though sufficient quantity is kept in stock, there are no copper dollars of 5 gms in stock. Sufficient stock of 10 gms gold dollars is kept.
