Safety audit of school, college vehicles

Thorough checking of school vehicles with an emphasis on perfect safety features is scheduled to be conducted in a week, The RTO officials have informed that safety-deficient vehicles, the fitness certificate will not be given.

There are around 38000 vehicles operated by the schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu. In order to prevent any accidents from happening to these vehicles, inspection is taken to conduct thorough checks on the safety features in these vehicles every year,

For the school/college vehicles under RTOs (Regional Transport Offices), the tyres, emergency exit doors, windows, fire-fighting devices, First Aid Box, Hand Brake, the eyesight of the drivers, and speed regulators are all inspected thoroughly for a check on 16 safety features. The testing of school vehicles is set to be conducted in a week.

RTO officials informed that mainly as a precautionary measure, thorough checks are made on the safety devices in school/college vehicles every year. This year’s check is scheduled in a week. A safety check procedure for 16 features will be conducted thoroughly. In the case of defects/deficiency, a week’s time will be given to rectify/improve. If the vehicles are found deficient, fitness certificates will not be given. In case the defects are of serious nature, the permit will be cancelled.
