2000 kg of gold jewellery has been sold in Chennai Metro city today on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.
The jewellery traders informed that 6000 kg of gold jewellery has been sold in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Normally, the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated every year for only 1 day. However, this year, this festival is being celebrated for 2 days - yesterday (Friday, 28th April) and today (Saturday, 29th April).
The attractive offers and advertisements have been released by the jewellery shops utilizing this 2-day festival, there have been huge crowds in jewellery shops in these 2 days.
Swarms of ladies were seen around in all the major and popular jewellery shops all over the important urban centres of Chennai Metro - T Nagar, Anna Nagar, Mylapore, Purasaiwalkam, Adyar, Sowcarpet, Parrys Corner, NSC Bose Road, Washermanpet, Thiruvotriyur, Chromepet, and Tambaram.
All the jewellery shops in the city, bog or small, had tremendous sales of jewellery items over the last 2 days. The traders had arranged many varieties and designs of jewellery items in large quantities in a very attractive and presentable manner.
Women visited the jewellery shops during the auspicious period to buy gold jewellery. They bought earrings/ear-studs, bangles, chains, rings, bracelets, and coins.
There are 35000 jewellery shops in Tamil Nadu. There are 5000 jewellery shops in Chennai Metro.
The president of the gold-diamond jewellery traders association, Mr. Jayanthilal explained that as compared to last year, the sales of gold jewellery is higher this year. When demonetization was announced during November last year, the people immediately flocked to the jewellery shops to exchange the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes and buy gold jewellery. This reflects the extent of trust placed by people on gold. As there are 2 days of this festival, the business is even better.
